History
Prehistory
What is thought to be the founders of modern Hopponese nation are the Ichinbunmei peoples. These peoples traveled across what is today the Hanto Region and the northern portions of the Marian region. They like many of their fellow neighboring groups such as the Yabahori people and the ancestors of the Shu people were nomadic people who followed packs of large grazing animals. Scientists don't know the exact date, but around 4,000 B.C, because of the unique religious culture of the Ichibunmei peoples. They developed the first appearance of agrarian society in Hoppon. As time went on, these people unified and the first Royal Family the Nabunga was formed. The Origin story goes as: "The large grazing animal had been chased by the foolish one of the western area of Ichibunmei, Orokanga. Because of his foolishness chasing the large grazing animal into the lands beyond the Great Inland Water(Masuzoe Lake). The wrath of the menimierukami (Gods) is upon us. Our people suffer with no large animal and die in the masses. But one, who was giften by the menimierukami, Nobu has found new ways to feed our peoples. He has been bestowed the powers of the gods to lead us all into propserity. The modern interpretation is that a man named Nobunaga of one of the Ichibunmei clans started a village and other members of the Ichibunmei who were suffering learned how to become agrarian over several generations until the entire area became unified under Nobunaga's village, which was named Ono, meaning "Small Field". The land around Ono was in a large estuary that is very fertile. The reason why the Ichinbunmei refused to just follow the large grazing animal past the lake, is that the religious culture had developed a naming convention. Said, naming convention was used to denote landmarks throughout the Hanto Peninsula. The different Ichibunmei clans used each landmark to mean a god they worshiped and as their culture believed in returning to certain landmarks that defined each clan every few years or so to perform rituals as nomadic people venturing past the edges of the peninsula was seen as forsaking the gods protection, and members of the clan would certainly die. Their is some historic background for this, but this was likely due to those that ventured past the lake meeting the more brutal nomadic peoples such as the Yabahori and the Shu. For example cannibalism wasn't rare for certain members of the Shu, and this stigma has lasted to modern day discrimination of Shu descended individuals. Ironically cannibalism although on a lesser scale could be found among Ichibunmei peoples as well. Such as when the chasing of the large grazing animals out of the Peninsula lead to mass starvation and Cannibalism among certain clans of Ichibunmei.
Because of the naming conventions of the Ichibunmei, a strong property rights culture was built, and this lead to terrible castes, that was formed from those whose great grandfathers had done great deeds and become de-facto Royals through land ownership. Due to the lack of willingness even until the 1500s to leave the Peninsula unless banished by a royal family, the limited land availability and the growth of the population of an agrarian society in extremely fertile land; the Ichibunmei who had by this time started calling themselves the Hanto Empire had huge land issues and many peasant revolts as well as a cleansing of much of the poorer less educated folk. This still exists to the modern day with poorer peoples being banished to live the rest of what is today modern Hoppon. The entire Hanto Peninsula up until the economic crash of the 1950's following the Great War was known as the "Gentrified Peninsula", because it was several years, older and much mire developed in rural areas especially than the rest of the country. It was also at that time virtually empty of poor people due to the caste system that still lingered in government policy. It also got funding from the religious people of other regions of Hoppon, as it was seen as the holy land (due to all the named landmarks with significant history) even for those who had historically been banished it was worshipped.
I still need to edit this page to make it look professional, right now these are more of my ideas for this page and it looks more like a sandbox than an actual impartial wiki page.
Early History
5 Kingdoms
Imadate Kingdom- In the Imadate Kingdom due to an outstanding merchant class that dominated trade across all 5 of the kingdoms, as the most powerful kingdom of the Hopponese culture, the Nobility in Mamoto and the countryside decided to give "Kenji" a city right on the trade routes between Mamoto, Ono and Joji to the merchants. This was mostly to avoid the merchants infiltrating and settling the countryside and giving the serf/servant classes ideas of gaining personal wealth similar to the merchants (who were formerly serfs/servants), the merchants followed the cultural/state religion of monarchy worship but many took it a step too far. As a result the city developed in the most unique way; To emulate the nobility, the wealthy merchants decided to build large castles/temples were their extended family would get the sole right to live and they themselves would be semi-deified like the nobles, creating a faux nobility, this lead to many large buildings making up the historic center of Kenji. Today Kenji is often known as "Fake Town", to these stunning buildings that dot the city, and as a result it's unusually large blocks compared to the much denser blocks of most Hopponese cities. Historians infer that while such actions surely enraged the noblemen in the Imadate prefecture, it also made the merchant class that had gotten so wealthy of trade a pariah across the 5 kingdoms socially, as their architecture was dissimilar and in most cases inferior to the historical architecture made by the thousands of willing servants of the true nobles of the Imadate Kingdom.
The merchants actually lost prestige and as a result a likely Civil War was avoided as in the 5 Kingdoms which were all monarchies led by semi-deities, any war that wasn't involving the nobility/crown of the state was unwelcome and often met with suppression by the other 4 kingdoms, eventually as the merchant class slowly fell into irrelevance for various reasons, including the moving of trade to the high seas, where nobility's influence (originally they were the only ones who could afford boats that could traverse long distances) was more important in trade, and as the Imadate Kingdom became an empire and unified the Hopponese culture in the Hanto Region, land trade was only possible with exiles outside Hanto or the various "barbarian" tribes also roaming the hinterlands.
Historians often wonder if this silly move by the merchant class in Kenji wasn't an attempt to emulate nobility, but rather to infiltrate it and then have a claim to entering nobility, and possibly causing a peaceful assimilation of the merchants into nobility, rather than the brutal war (which the merchants would have lost due to the warriors, serfs and servants all backing the nobility). By giving them the city, historians speculate the possible uncanny genius of nobles to purposefully isolate merchant wealth to not only culturally separate themselves from merchants but physically separate them from other classes by giving them a permanent city, by labeling it "Fake Town" on purpose the merchants were never able to shake the label of having no claim to royalty. The nobles, also used their political power to not allow as many organic names in Kenji and would often name areas well before they got developed leading to Kenji having some interesting neighborhood names, as well as much smaller wards than most other cities do to a long list of names that had to stick around because of noble decree. This developmental trend of market towns being semi-devoid of nobles and nobles towns being devoid of merchants have lasted well on today, when the semi-industrialized heartland collapsed it was the merchant cities that were hit the hardest even though their hasn't been a serious claim to the throne from merchants in more than a century. Today, Mamoto, Joji, Masuzoe and Ono are all doing well economically to some extent and Kenji, Nobunaga, Ryoku, Ikada, Bagarasaki and other merchant dominated cities have been in economic turmoil partially due to their distant past, and partially due to the descendants of nobility and the descendants of the merchants still fighting somewhat over control of various industries, and government discrimination always ended up with the merchants drawing the short stick.

Prefectures
Hoppon has thirty six prefectures, these prefectures have their own government, similar to the Hopponese government. They can have their own laws that do not differ from the government as long as they fall under the loose Hopponese constitution. Hoppon has a huge division between the wealth of each prefecture as seen in the Hopponese Prefectures by GDP per capita list.
Demographics
Ethnic Groups
Hopponese
The Hopponese are normally split into four sub-groups, which represents the waves of migration out of the Peninsula into modern day "Hoppon" by those of Ichibunmei descent. Of DNA tests taken of those born before the 1940's push to unify Hopponese culturally. Over 30,000 people were sampled.
Pre-1940 Hopponese DNA
Hantō 64%- The Hanto control the peninsula have been reported to ethnically be composed of 80% Ichibunmei DNA which are ancient travelers that arrived in Hoppon and brought the language roughly 3,000 B.C and 13% Yabahōri DNA, which is what the native groups of Hoppon is called. Roughly 5% of DNA is of Pyilser-Ataraxian origin and roughly 1% of Edicarian DNA.
